For jazz piano, mostly Mccoy Tyner and Herbie Hancock. For more contemporary jazz piano and that is what speaks to me the most it’s Jason Moran and Craig Taborn because they are so unique and so creative! Meshell Ndegeocello and Björk because of their originality and creativity as well! I also love hip hop and my favorites are Little Simz and FKA Twigs

Was kannst du mir auf deinem Instrument besser beibringen als alle anderen Lehrer*innen?
I think that my techniques to learn harmony and comping are quite unique. I connect a lot of different styles as well. For me music is music and I have a big and wide knowledge around it so it makes things interesting and inspiring for the student. With creating/composing/songwriting/producing, I really help the students finding their own voice! And understand that their inner world is so rich and precious and special!

Wie hast du dein Instrument spielen gelernt?
I don’t really have any anecdote. But I remember when I was a very young child, my mother was playing piano all the time (she is a professional classical pianist) and I was climbing on her back on the chair and hold on to her and hang there a little while. :)

Sometimes I just sit at the piano and try stuff out. Most of the time I do that actually. I try stuff out, I combine things and see what works and what I like. Then the story can start. Some other times I have maybe a melody in the head or a secific atmosphere or emotion or vibe that I want to work with. When I write songs, I usually start with the text. And then put this text in music! I work a lot with images and cinematic.

Auf welchem Equipment spielst du heute?
I play piano most of the time. But with my new band I also sing and use the OB6 synthesizer. It’s a lot of fun and brings beautiful textures and powerful effects to the music!

My classical piano teacher. She is polish. She was intense but a very good teacher I think. My teacher at jazz school as well. He was amazing! He knew so much and he really believed in me and my potential and what I had that was unique!

Was hat dein Instrument, was andere nicht haben?
piano is the king of all instruments! it’s like an orchestra!

Worauf achtest du dich besonders beim Unterrichten?
For me the most important is the energy. Both teacher and student have to come to the class with a positive energy and be open minded and curious. Respect is also important for me. That goes both ways! And also humility and trust! There is no need to proof anything! If you come to my class, it is because you want to learn something, you don’t have to show me that you are great or know better. I will observe and naturally see your potential. Maybe something unusual is that I don’t really care when people don’t practice at home. We can have a practice session together. Then the teaching becomes coaching. But it’s also good and can show great result!!

Wie baust du deine Musikstunden auf?
It’s usually always a mixture between practical harmony and play! ideally we split the class in two for those things. But sometimes we want to focus on our thing more particularly. I think it’s important to stay flexible!

Wie gehst du bei Kindern vor?
I am really good with kids I think. because I love to play and find games! Kids are the best, they are so creative, open and free! There are the ideal little creatures for creative classes! :)

Every time that I have a very good concert. Which means that we are super focused, connected, inspired. The audience is sucked in and you can just feel it. there is no noise in the room. You can feel the tension. This is when the magic happens. You then truly feel connected to something bigger. It doesn’t happen that often. But every times it does, it’s the best feeling in the world and I feel in line with the universe!!

Not sure...but I think the most people there was probably at jazzahead in Bremen

Mit welcher*welchem Musiker*in würdest du gerne einmal spielen?
I would love to play duo with pianist Jason Moran. He’s my idol!

Ooooh that is so difficult! But if really I had to choose I would choose Meshell Ndegeocello, The Omnichord Realbook. Or Paul Bley, Open to Love! Can’t decide...

My dream as a kid was to play at Montreal Jazz Festival. That would be cool! Or just like big fat philharmonie rooms and beautiful churches and unique venues!

My family, my friends and art in general!
