Handbook for music lessons

What are the main difficulties in learning to sing?

Singing is a very personal matter. Many people would like to sing, but don't have the confidence. In the article Learning to sing for beginners we have compiled many relevant questions for singing beginners.
Among other things, Valérie Arias, who teaches singing in Zurich, explains the challenges she often encounters with students at the beginning:
“The initial difficulties are as different and individual as the pupils themselves, but I still try to explain the most important ones.”
Your own voice is not accepted as an instrument
Shame
Similarly, the shame of making the wrong or off-key sounds often hinders one's own learning progress.
Unlike the violin, for example, the voice is not perceived as an instrument that can be learned.
A person can sing or not
The general opinion is still that a person can either sing or not.
However, with the right approach, all these challenges can be worked on.
In the end, it should feel good when you sing. That is the most important thing! Singing teachers can of course support you in this.
We will continue to add to the handbook in the future. If you have any questions about music lessons, please feel free to send them to us. Maybe you can even give us the topic for the next article?
